Jobs and Deadlines

Deadlines are an optional feature that is not enabled by default.

Deadlines allow you to set a deadline for job completion that is not related to the planned start time.

For example, you may have a job with a 5:00 Friday deadline, but the dispatcher can still plan for it to start at any time during the week.

The website allows users to specify a deadline duration in the template, for example an emergency water main job may automatically get a deadline that is 3 hours after the job create time to meet the customer's SLA for this type of job.

If you are creating jobs via the API and a deadline duration has been set in the template, your job will automatically inherit the correct deadline.

If you need to set a deadline and the duration is not configured in the template, then you set a specific date and time rather than a duration.

The following example sets a job deadline of Dec 31 2019 at 5pm.

<complete_deadline>2019-12-31T17:00:00+13:00</complete_deadline>

Note: The +13:00 at the end of the time means that we are operating in a time zone that is 13 hours ahead of UTC, so this deadline is "local time".
